Ford 6.7 mass air flow sensor problems10/31/2023 ![]() The diagnostic specification for an E-series 6.0L is 13 PSI minimum. So at this point, I ask what exactly you are chasing down here? If your boost parameter is "boost gauge" meaning PSI ABOVE BARO then your reading of 18 PSI is the maximum you should expect from an up to date stock calibration. Using carb cleaner, Brakleen or any other common automotive chemical other than recommended will damage the coating on the sensor. If you remove the air filter cover and inspect the sensor closely and observe an oil residue and or dust you can try cleaning the sensor with any MAF sensor cleaner - I recommend CRC MAF Sensor Cleaner. These sensors can and do fail but not very common. Known problems with MAF sensors include aftermarket/performance air filters and systems, DIRTY MAF sensors and harness issues. 18 PSI boost is low for a loaded engine under wide open throttle conditions that engine should see up to 30 PSI and the calibration should begin making efforts to limit that if boost goes beyond 30 PSI. If your testing reveals the no load numbers I listed above I suggest your low power concern lies elsewhere. ![]() Are there any other codes related to fuel injectors or the air management system - turbo and EGR? Are there any leaks in the exhaust system from the exhaust manifolds to the turbocharger outlet? Any exhaust restrictions? Any leaks in the induction system from the air filter to the turbo and the charge air system from the turbo to the intake manifold? FUEL PRESSURE in spec? All of these will cause low engine power and low boost numbers and consequently low MAF readings. However, before we get to this test there are a lot of inspections to perform. ![]() The diagnostic tests ask you the following: Is the MAF PID value 1.2 to 1.8 volts with the engine at idle and 2.4 to 3.0 volts at 2,500 RPM no load? If not, replace the MAF sensor. Engine at High Idle or Wide Open Throttle, no-load = 2.65v.I'll answer the Mass Air Flow Signal reading question first by giving you the reference values in the service manual. ![]() ![]() You are correct that the 6.0L PSD in the Econoline is de-tuned from the F-Series version application. ![]()
